Love is for the Birds

A viral disaster. An impossible age gap. A parrot with a potty mouth. What could possibly go wrong?

Valerie Nichols didn’t attend four years of nursing school to work at a sperm bank, but life after divorce requires practical choices. What it doesn’t require is accidentally walking in on the most gorgeous man she’s ever seen—at the worst possible moment. When patient #143208 storms out in humiliation, Valerie assumes that’s the end of their mortifying meet-cute.

She’s wrong.

Wyatt Nolan can’t stop thinking about the sarcastic nurse who recommended a chiropractor for his anatomy. When fate throws them together at a speed dating event, he’s determined not to let her slip away again. There’s just one problem—she’s fourteen years older than him. And his father happens to be the Governor of Washington.

Before Valerie can say “age-appropriate relationship,” she’s viral again—this time for all the wrong reasons. Her newly adopted African Grey parrot, Horatio, crashes the Governor’s re-election rally with an X-rated vocabulary that makes headlines around the world. Now the internet has opinions about her age, her bird, and her relationship with America’s most eligible bachelor.

But Wyatt isn’t backing down. Not for his father’s campaign, not for social media trolls, and definitely not because of one foul-mouthed feathered troublemaker. He’s falling for Valerie—hard, fast, and completely out of control. And he’ll do whatever it takes to prove that their love story isn’t a mistake.

It’s the best kind of chaos.

A laugh-out-loud romantic comedy about second chances, viral fame, and finding love in the most unexpected places. Perfect for fans who aren’t afraid of a little profanity—courtesy of an opinionated parrot.

She gives him attitude. He gives her

The Love Birds Series Inspiration

When I was around eight years old, my family took me to a local pet shop during one of our mall trips. Like most kids, I made a beeline for the puppies in the window, barely glancing at the colorful parrots perched in their cages along the way. Birds just weren't my thing.

But when it was time to leave, everything changed. My mother called out across the store, "Sasha!"

Before I could respond, one of those parrots I'd ignored echoed her perfectly: "Sasha!"

I froze. The bird had mimicked not just the word, but the exact tone and inflection of my mother's voice. In that moment, I became absolutely obsessed with talking birds.

Years later, I stumbled across a YouTube video that reignited that childhood fascination. It featured an African Grey parrot headbanging and singing—yes, singing—Drowning Pool's "Bodies" on repeat. I've watched that video at least a hundred times since discovering it, and I've shared it with anyone who will watch. It never gets old, and it never fails to make me smile.

Those two moments—the parrot who knew my name and the rockstar bird who loved metal music—planted the seeds for Horatio. I knew I wanted to write a story featuring a profane, rock-loving parrot with impeccable (or terrible, depending on your perspective) timing. What I didn't expect was how perfectly he'd fit into Valerie and Wyatt's chaotic love story.

Horatio became more than just comic relief. He became the catalyst that brought them together, the witness to their most intimate moments, and the perfect symbol of their beautifully messy relationship. Because sometimes the best love stories include a foul-mouthed bird screaming "fuck yes" at exactly the right moment.
